Welcome To

PE (Physical Education)

At St Chad’s we follow the Lancashire PE Scheme through the PE Passport App. The PE Passport App is a teaching tool that provides Lancashire planning and a platform to evidence and assess the children. At St Chad’s we believe that this scheme provides our children with the appropriate skills and knowledge needed to progress through the PE Curriculum successfully. Our children are taught the statutory 2 hours of PE each week and cover a wide range of skills through different sports and opportunities.

At St Chad’s we work hard to provide our children with as much physical activity as possible. We are aware of the life long benefits it can have on our children to educate them on living a healthy and active lifestyle. This is achieved through active break times, Y5 playground leaders, access to sports equipment over break and lunchtime, extra curricular clubs both before and afterschool, external visitors and regular active brain breaks throughout the day.

We offer a wide range of extra curricular clubs which are provided by school staff, Fleetwood Town and other registered providers. The clubs that we offer build upon the skills that children have been taught in their PE lessons and also offer an insight into the wide range of sports available outside of school. At St Chad’s, we also regularly attend competitions against other local schools with much success. Our additional clubs and competitions are always well supported by children, families and friends.

We will be using a ‘Pop-Up Pool’ for our curriculum swimming this year. The pool will be on site for 2 weeks. Children will receive smaller group teaching and this will also maximize learning time in school.  Watch this space for more information!

Within the teaching and learning of PE, children develop a deeper awareness of their own bodies and abilities. In Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), fundamental movement skills lessons such as balancing, running, and jumping encourage children to explore their physical capabilities. This exploration fosters a sense of achievement and self-confidence, essential for spiritual growth.

PE lessons provide numerous opportunities for children to interact, collaborate, and build relationships with their peers. Team sports and group activities, such as relay races in athletics, require cooperation and communication.

PE connects children to the natural world and their environment. Outdoor activities allow children to engage with nature, promoting an appreciation for the world around them. This connection can inspire a sense of awe and wonder for the environment.

PE also offers moments for reflection and mindfulness, which are crucial for spiritual development. Yoga and meditation sessions can be incorporated into the curriculum, allowing children to quiet their minds and reflect on their experiences. These practices help children to connect with their inner selves and cultivate a sense of peace and well-being.
